Meet Jo and Ange
These two have been workout buddies for a while now and together they push, motivate and inspire each other to reach out of those comfort zones.
First up and in Jo’s own words, she describes their journey so far:
“Twelve months ago I turned 49 and knew I wanted to be in a better place health wise when I turned 50 with a goal to lose 2 stone. Along with my gym buddy Ange I signed up for a weekly PT with Sophie and I am delighted that I have achieved my goal and so much more!!!
Our journey with Sophie started in October and over the past ten months I have not only achieved my weight loss goal, I am fitter, stronger and healthier. Sessions are always varied, often painful but always challenging and fun. We are pushed to achieve our goals but while always ensuring you have good form so you can reach your maximum but stay injury free.
Although sessions have only been an hour a week, Sophie has been there for us with food and nutrition advice and training plans for in between the weekly sessions. She has helped me to understand how to have a better relationship with food and manage my calories, but still enjoy life!
Sophie is a great motivator and cares about her clients as friends, she is unbelievably passionate and knowledgeable and I have really enjoyed her training.
Thank you for helping me to be fit at fifty!!!” 🎉🥂🥳
Truly humbling words and non of which I paid her to write! 🤣😅
These two are some seriously strong ladies, when I look around the gym and see them matching and even out lifting some of the lads, it really is a proud moment. They have both come so far and I’m excited to see how we can keep progressing. A shift in focus has already begun and we have now started to push on with steadily bringing these numbers in the gym up. 💪🏼🏋️♀️
Right from the start I’m always honest and realistic with my clients.
Yes it will require hard work.💯
Yes it will require commitment and dedication.💯
No it does not need to be a miserable journey to your goal!💯
So how have they done it? 🤔
By a combination of the following:
✅Following effective workout programmes and schedules
✅Set calorie goals
✅Increased daily protein uptake
✅Making simple food swaps when on the go
✅Focused on sleep cycle
✅Upped water intake
✅Their own hard work, determination and willpower💯‼️
What we haven’t done:
❌Endless amounts of cardio
❌Eliminated ANY food
❌Demonised or banned any food
❌Taken any miracle pills or meal replacement shakes
❌Lived on poverty calories
❌Banned nights out or restricted on holiday
As with all my clients everything has been:
Meet another one of my dedicated clients: 🔥 🎉👏
First picture – unable to do up little black jacket ☹️
Second picture – able to fully do up little black jacket 🤗
Down 22lbs and still counting 📉💃
A great way of monitoring progress is by using clothing as a reference, they don’t lie and you can really see the changes even when the scales might not be showing what you want.
How has my client done this?
✅Hard work and commitment to a training plan that includes resistance training
✅Daily step goals
✅Sticking to simple and realistic calorie goals
✅Not eliminating any food group
✅Enjoying her favourite food (including alcohol) while remaining mindful and in control
✅No crazy cardio regime
✅Establishing a supportive environment
✅Patience and dedication
This is only the start of her journey, one which she is enjoying the process and is therefore completely sustainable for her. 💪🏼
Watch this space for future updates!
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lynda since the end of Summer and what she has achieved already on this journey is a massive testament to her hard work, grit and determination.
Lynda first came to me with her main focus being weight loss, she had fallen off her usual routine of training and just needed someone to push her and get her back on track. She wanted to try different forms of training and knew about the benefits of incorporating resistance exercises but was unsure about how to do this.
Since the first session of going back to the basics and focusing on form and technique, this lady has now hit the squat rack and deadlift platform for the very first time in her life. 🏋️♀️💪🏻
So far Lynda has lost an incredible half a stone and over 3 inches lost from both her waist and hips. With her own weight loss target well and truly smashed I’m happy to say that the focus has now switched to increasing her strength and building those numbers up in the gym. #gains
I couldn’t be prouder, she gives everything in all our sessions, focuses on the nutrition targets that we set and has been consistent, which has been the key to her changes.
Lynda has very demanding job, working 14 hour shifts which have been a mixture of both day and nights, but she never once used this as an excuse. She planned her food and training in advance so she was accountable to what she said she was going to do. We made small, realistic and sustainable changes.
We focused on fuelling her body along with making sure she was able to recover efficiently. Sleep, daily activity levels, mindset and environment were all factored in to help make sure she was able to keep on track.
The desire she has to make changes have helped her to overcome the obstacles that have been thrown her way so far. As is the beauty of life, there have naturally been stumbling blocks along the journey but its all been down to how she has reacted to these situations. Getting back to it and moving forward all the time.
In her own words:
“I have been trying to become a fitter, healthier version of myself and have tried running clubs but always struggled to believe in myself and constantly felt I was the slowest and the most unfit.
I have also suffered injuries and had to find different ways to keep fit and Sophie has given me so much encouragement, support and confidence to go in the gym, use weights, have my own goals and realise that my only competitor is myself. I now always look forward to my PT sessions, have the confidence to go in the gym on my own and am seeing real differences, not only in my physical appearance but my mental health.
I never thought I’d start weight training at the wrong side of 50 and enjoy going to the gym but Sophie has changed all that through her passion for fitness and determination to help others to be the best THEY can be”.
I can’t wait to see how she continues to progress! #excitingtimes 😃👏
